Inhumane rhetoric has fostered overt racism and injustice towards people of color, including immigrants. As the maltreatment of immigrants intensifies, America must remember that they, too, are human with pasts that are inexplicably foreign to the average privileged American. For this single mother of 4, Yris Soto, life in the outskirts of the Dominican Republic was filled with impoverishment and turmoil. Here, she uncovers the harsh realities of her childhood and her intensions of her journey to America.
